Reset Blacktip Software

Introduction

Following these instructions will reset your Blacktip to factory defaults and hopefully solve any issues you might be having.

These instructions are only for a New Blacktip with Bluetooth. Serial Numbers greater than 7000

Key Terms:

Vesc: The electronic device inside your scooter that controls it and powers the motor.  Its an open-source device and not specific to underwater scooters. You can find lots of information about it on the internet.

Firmware: The main software that runs on the Vesc electronics. The App always has the latest version ready to install. 

Package: The Dive Xtras software that runs on top of the firmware and adds the Scooter functionality. Dive Xtras will supply this to you as a file.

Get The App

All Software changes are done via Bluetooth and the VESC app on your phone or tablet.

Please download & purchase the VESC Tool  App in the appropriate App store on your phone or tablet.

Download the Package

You will need to download the package file to a location you can access later. 

The current File is V1.50 Dive Xtras.vescpkg

On an iPhone you would download it to “Files”

Update Firmware

Follow All The Steps:

Step 1

Connect Po wer to Your BlackTip Tail

Step 1

Open the downloaded VESC Tool App and Wait until a Bluetooth device (your scooter) appears to connect too. 

Step 3

Click The Connect Button. 

Step 4

Scroll Down to Update Firmware.  Click “Upload” and wait till it has finished. The app will lose connection for a bit when the electronics restarts after the upload. 

Load The Package

Step 5

Scroll  Down to Packages Store and Click “Install from file…”

Step 6

Find the saved package file from earlier on your device and select it. 

Step 7

Install package and wait until completion

Step 8

Wait until fully loaded and  Click “OK”

Reset Defaults

Step 9

Scroll To APPUI Tab, then Scroll to Settings Tab, then Click “CHANGE SCOOTER HARDWARE TYPE"

Step 10

Click “RESET BLACKTIP DEFAULTS” then  Wait 5 Seconds To Complete

Step 11

Scroll To START tab and then Click “ Disconnect

Step 12

Disconnect Power

Test

Step 13

Reconnect Power to Your BlackTip Tail

Step 14

Open the VESC Tool App and wait until a Bluetooth device (your scooter) appears to connect too. 

Step 15

Click The Connect Button. 

Step 16

Scroll to APPUI Tab and test gears 1-8 by running them each for 1-2 seconds.

Disconnect & Finished

Step 17

Scroll To START tab and Click “Disconnect”

Step 18

Disconnect Power
